Dr. Hamid Slimi
Chairman of the Conference Advisory Committee
Dr. Hamid Slimi is an Academic scholar, a spiritual leader, a teacher and a Community Developer. He is: the current chairman and senior lecturer of the Canadian Centre for Deen Studies (a Muslim Theological Seminary for educating and training future Imams and chaplains). He is also the Founder and President of Faith of Life Network (A Charitable organization focused on providing spiritual and educational programs as well as bridge building with other faiths for peace building and harmony) and Board member of different Interfaith and Community bodies/groups, TV Producer of Faith of Life TV Shows, videos and documentaries and CEO of a Management and Marketing Solutions Business in Ontario.
In addition to the traditional degrees known as Ijazah, he holds two Masters degrees with High Honors in both disciplines from Morocco and the US and a PhD in Islamic Law from the U.K. He received both his traditional and academic learning in Morocco and attended other renowned institutions and universities in other parts of the world. From 2009 till 2018, Dr. Slimi has been featured by Georgetown University as one of the 500 Most Influential Muslims in the World for his community development and building as well as his spiritual leadership and interfaith work. |
Pervez NasimMember of the Conference Advisory Committee
Mr. Pervez Nasim is a Bachelor of Commerce and a Certified Management Accountant (CPA). He is a founding member and Chair of the Board of the Islamic Co-operative Housing Corporation Ltd., first Interest-Free Home Ownership and Investment project in North America, and for that he has been volunteering his time since its inception in 1980 in Toronto.
Mr. Pervez Nasim is also Chairman & CEO of Ansar Co-operative Housing Corporation and a number of Ansar Financial Group of Companies that organized the 3rd International Islamic Banking, Finance & Insurance (Takaful) Conference held in Ottawa, Canada in May 2007. Ansar Financial Group Companies are managing investments in excess of $86 Million on Interest-free basis in various Projects and Joint Ventures in Canada. Mr. Pervez Nasim is also Chairman & CEO of first Interest-free (Sharia Compliant) Public Company in North America known as Ansar Financial and Development Corporation Ltd. that is now listed at Canadian Stock Exchange and traded under the symbol of “AFD”. Mr. Pervez Nasim was employed by the Ministry of Finance in Canada, from where he took early retirement in 2004 after twenty-seven years of service, so that he can devote more time to the various Islamic Financing & Investment Projects. During the past twenty-seven years he has made a number of presentations on ISLAMIC FINANCE AND INSURANCE (TAKAFUL) in various INTERNATIONAL ISLAMIC BANKING AND FINANCE conferences held in various cities in US-Canada and Khartoum, Kuala Lumpur, Trinidad, Chittagong, Jakarta, Riyadh, Monterrey Mexico, Malta, Dubai, Jakarta, Manchester (UK), Brunei Darussalam, London Euromoney, Harvard University, London School of Economics in England and at Crans Montana Forum in Geneva, Switzerland. |
Mohammed JalaluddinMember of the Conference Advisory Committee
Mohammed Jalaluddin has a Master of Science Degree from the University of Texas at Dallas, United States and has over 30 years of experience in Islamic Finance as well as in Senior Business Management. Mohammed Jalaluddin is the founding member and currently the President of Ansar Financial Group as well as the President of Ansar Financial and Development Corporation (AFDC), a Public company which is First of its kind in North America based in Toronto that offers interest-free investments and is Sharia Compliant. This Public Company has a Sharia Board and is listed on the Canadian Stock Exchange (CSE) with the symbol “AFD”. Mohammed Jalaluddin has served as a Board member of Islamic and Ansar Housing Cooperative Corporations for many years and currently is the Vice Chairman.
Mr. Jalaluddin is currently the Vice President (Canada) on the Board of ISNA Continental (USA and Canada). He is also the president of Indian Muslim Relief and Charities (IMRC Canada). Mohammed Jalaluddin has played a significant role in establishing the first Takaful (Islamic Insurance) in North America as a joint project with the Co-operators General Insurance Company of Canada in 2007 that is currently offering Home, auto and Commercial Insurance. Mohammed Jalaluddin has made many presentations on Islamic Finance in Canada, USA as well as other countries, including Malaysia, Turkey, Brunei, Dubai, Oman and to the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO), Canada. |
Shaykh Omar SubedarMember of the Conference Advisory Committee
Shaykh Omar Subedar was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. In 1990 he was inspired by a very close friend to memorize the entire Qur’ān. He thus enrolled in the Institute of Islamic Education located in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, U.K. Upon committing the entire Qur’ān to memory in 1993, he decided to further his Islamic education by taking the institutes’ Aalimiyah Program where he was taught the Dars-i Niẓāmī curriculum. The curriculum covered advanced Arabic, Aqīdah, Tafsīr of the Qur’ān, Hadith, Fiqh according to the Hanafi School of Islamic Law and the 10 major recitations of the Qur’ān.
By the grace of Allāh, the Shaykh graduated from the program in 2001 with an average of 93% in his final exams. He was then granted the certificate of Scholar of Islamic Sciences and Arabic Literature from the institute. Currently, the Shaykh serves as the Director of the Mathabah Institute, the Chief Operations Officer at the Halal Monitoring Authority, the Founder and President of Bukhari Publications and Bukhari Academy, the Founder of Muslims4Canada and the Khaṭīb at the Islamic Society of Peel. He has authored Plan your Day the Prophet’s Way, Rethink your World, How to Live the Life of the Prophet (peace be upon him), The First Steps in Practising Islam, and The Commentary on Sahih al-Bukhari. |
Ibtissam SebbahiMember of the Conference Advisory Committee
Ibtissam Sebbahi was born and raised in Morocco where she completed her high school education. She then moved to San Francisco to graduate with a Bachelor degree in Arts and Science. Ibtissam left some professional landmarks in Morocco before she came to Canada as she lead a managerial position at one of the Auto Rental industry Giants; she also organized the 1st Moroccan Bridal Festival in Tangier, Morocco.
Since she arrived in Canada in 2011, Ibtissam has been dedicated to empowering Arab Women. She founded Muslim Womenpreneurs Network where she inspires women to achieve their dreams through hard work, persistence, self confidence and teamwork. She believes in helping other women grow, developing in them the attitude of ... we grow together not alone. Ibtissam is co founder of NOWFOOD Maroc and a business consultant providing business guidance and consultancy services to women that are struggling to start their business. She is married and has 3 children. |
Hossam Khedr Member of the Conference Advisory Committee
Hossam Khedr is recognized for his local and global work, he is a well-connected community leader in the greater Toronto area. His work with youth both in the Muslim community and in the mainstream community in Canada is widely appreciated. He is the president of the Muslim Youth Soccer League in Mississauga serving 2000 players age 4 and up.
He is the founder of accessKix, an accessible and inclusive soccer program serving young people with disabilities. Hossam also serves as a volunteer manager for the Homeless World Cup, an annual sport event that serves teams from 70 member countries. He understands the challenges of minority communities. He is passionate about elevating the brand of Muslims in North America and wants to improve the standard of living of Muslims in Canada and other western countries. Hossam has a Bachelor of Computer Science and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Windsor, Ontario. |
